Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within Review
Are you considering attending the UPW event and looking for an honest Unleash the Power Within review? In this article, I review my experience at Tony Robbins Unleash The Power Within, or as the cool kids say, UPW or #upw.
This 3 ½ day event is designed to help participants unlock and unleash their inner strength and power. Unleash the Power Within emphasizes (un)conditioning oneself to achieve a peak state and explores key areas such as overcoming fears and self-limiting beliefs. The seminar aims to transform lives by encouraging individuals to try new things like fire-walking, meeting people, and actively engaging in personal growth and development.
Tony UPW: Life Happens for you, not to you.
I didn’t resonate with every aspect of the event, and at times I felt like I was sitting through a sales pitch. However, there was enough value that I would recommend doing it. Tony offers Unleash The Power Within several times yearly in various locations worldwide. I flew to Sydney, Australia, as part of a longer trip that I was already planning. You might consider doing an event outside your current location—like a pilgrimage.
Unleash The Power Within Format
Unleash The Power Within is well orchestrated. Each day is split into themes, and we followed those themes through Tony’s (and others’) guidance and mentorship. Of course, Unleash the Power Within wasn’t as engaging whenever Tony was not the primary facilitator. I am sure back in the day he did all four days.
Tony is live for two of the four days, and his entourage takes the stage for the other days. Disappointedly, you get sprinklings of Tony via video when he is absent, which is a bit weird. It’s not like the non-Tony days are bad; they’re just not as good.
They show video recordings of Tony Robbins giving various talks on subjects that follow the theme for the day—some of them are a little dated, and he does repeat concepts now and again. I didn’t mind the repetition; it helped me assimilate some main topics and lessons.
Days one and three are the best, though I found jewels of value on the non-Tony days. Many exercises and topics made me uncomfortable and pushed my boundaries into very intimate areas. I laughed, danced, hugged strangers, and gave group messages. I cried. It was cathartic.
Unleash the Power Within made me feel deep emotion. I touched sorrow inside myself and ecstatic joy and witnessed people’s outer shells dissolve while they exposed intimate psychological wounds and traumas. I listened to strangers tell me their most celebrated dreams. It was an atmosphere of jubilation: dancing, shouting, jumping, and screaming. Unleash the Power Within is like the best rave you have ever been to, but stone-cold sober.
Fire-walking with Tony Robbins
I was reluctant to do it when I first heard about fire walking. Sitting in the crowd on day one, I kept making excuses for why fire-walking wasn’t for me. I wrestled with my fear all day until I finally faced my fear and decided to participate. A few years later, the same fear came up when I was invited to a plant medicine retreat to heal my childhood traumas. I didn’t know it then, but the resolve I found with Tony Robbins to participate in firewalking helped sow the seeds for future growth.
Unleash The Power Within Tony Robbins
Yes, I walked across 2000-degree hot coals at the end of the first day, and if you decide to go to UPW, you should do it, too. Fire-walking is Tony Robbin’s signature activity, setting the stage for the rest of the four days. Don’t chicken out on the firewalk. This is why you are going to UPW, to push your limits—you can do it.
How I Got To Tony Robbins & Unleash The Power Within
I was first attracted to Tony Robbins when I watched his Ted Talk. Tony Robbins’ Ted Talk is like a condensed version of his teachings. It is a great jumping-off point to learn about him and his methodology. Tony resurfaced again for me a few years ago on a podcast with Tim Ferris about morning routines and peak performance—subjects I am very interested in.
At one point, I researched his events and looked at attending one but then life caught up with me, and I forgot about it. My business partner Neil told me he was going, and I jumped on his coattails, and we attended together. I flew to Sydney to attend the event there. It was well worth every penny.
Neil and I decided not to sit next to each other to make the experience as raw as possible. It’s too easy to fall into common patterns when you are next to someone you know—we wanted to remove the safety net.
One of the most powerful exercises at UPW was looking into limiting beliefs. This exercise examined the beliefs that hold us from realizing our full potential. It’s a beautiful process and well worth the price of admission. Tony uncovers your hidden self and exposes your limiting beliefs with neuro-linguistic programming (NPL) techniques.
Unleash The Power Within Review – My Doubts Unveiled
A more cynical part of me questioned the event with its bright lights and loud music. I asked myself if I was being manipulated—it sometimes felt very sales-oriented. Tony and his crew are in the business of personal development, it attracts money, and they rake it in. Mixing money with personal development is a tricky business. We all have to make money somehow—right?
Some Things I Learned From UPW
I touched some profound areas of myself during UPW. Major takeaways from the event include lessons around gratitude, celebration, energy, and uncovering limiting beliefs. Also, facing my fears around the fire-walking event was very powerful. I realized how powerful my thoughts are and that they ultimately create my reality.
Would I recommend you attend Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within event? As Derek Sivers would say, if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no. You might hate it, and you might love it. One thing is for sure, you will learn something about yourself in the process and gain insight into your limiting beliefs.
The following are some magical lessons that I took away from Unleash The Power Within:
- Belief is an excuse for an experience.
- Discipline your disappointments.
- Expectation stands in the way of joy.
- Life happens for you, not to you.
- We get what we tolerate.
- Trade your expectations for appreciation.
- Complexity is the enemy of execution.
- Leaders anticipate, not react.
- Emotional fitness is a state of readiness.
- Money magnifies who you already are.
This one is my favorite and I repeat it often:
“You get what you tolerate.”
