Unconditional Love

What is Unconditional Love?

These two words are an oxymoron—love has no condition, and thus the question is: what is love? If love is a spirit, what qualities are imbued in love or requested by love?

Love is a recognition that I am not separate from another. My “I” is like all other “I”s, and therefore, acknowledging deep reverence for myself and all other beings, not just humans but also the animals, plants, and beings in the unseen world—means that I care for and support the health, welfare, and happiness of others, including myself.

Rooted in love means I lead from the heart, I speak from the heart, I listen from the heart, and I act from the heart. Love also means that when these heart roots fail or get severed, I am gentle and kind with myself. However, I pay close attention to these transgressions of my heart. In that meditation of my heart, I discover lessons of non-love that inform new behavior patterns and practices that bring me back to my loving center.

Love requires a heightened sensitivity to my needs, but also asks to recognize the needs of others. Love petitions us to find a balance of needs as we traverse complex dynamics in relationships. When chaos arises, the main message love whispers is to slow down and breathe.

Love requests I act with integrity and pledge to surround myself with others who also dwell in the ruminations of the heart. Love may request that I end relationships that no longer serve love, and that I reject behaviors that dampen love’s luminosity. Love can be fierce, but love is always for us and never against us.

Love is the unifying force of the universe. Love is the deep lyrical note embedded in an icaro and the silence between the notes. Love inspires music and poetry, and inflames the heart to manifest beauty creatively and seamlessly.

Hate is not the opposite of love because love has no opposite. Love is the foundation of a non-dual mind and holds the fabric of the cosmos together. Love is the seed sound of creation, arising from nothing and yet encompassing everything in the universe.
